While at Tanya and Travis’s wedding, Jeff and I decided that we would be just fine leaving for the Cariboo that night, instead of 4 am the next day. We headed off home to pack, then off to pick up the dogs… and then back past Abbotsford (where the wedding was) and kept going for the ‘boo. We rolled in around 5 or 6 am to a beautiful day. Flowers everywhere were looking amazing!

Chopper couldn’t get enough of the Cariboo. The first day, all he wanted to do was run, run, swim, run and run some more. If he ever stopped moving and started getting the blinks, he would get up, grab his toy and engage in a game of fetch to keep awake. Friday, obviously, had no such ambitions.

Unfortunately, I only got pictures of two of the deer we saw – two of 46! We saw 15 deer on our way to the Cariboo, five of them were on the property when we arrived. Every time we drove out to Interlake Market or to 100 Mile House, we would see several deer.

We went fishing a few times – not as many times as we would have liked to. I think that was okay with Chopper. Sometimes, he seemed to be having tons of fun, but he ended up spending a lot of boat time cuddled up by my legs or on my lap.

We did a lot of swimming. I went in every day AND actually swam. I usually don’t like the shock that I get from the cold water, but the weather was so beautiful. I did the swim to the Bob and Wanda’s property across the way twice – something I was never brave enough to do before. Even as a former competitive swimmer and lifeguard, the open water sort of freaked me out. Anyway, lots of swimming. Scipio and Cessna swam tons. Chopper would swim, but only if we threw the Frisbee for him. The only exception was the one time that Jeff, Friday and I were all in the water (not by choice for Friday) – he didn’t like being separated, so he joined us. Other than that, to get him in, we had to throw the Frisbee.

We went for a hike around the lake. It involved strawberry searches, seeing a random skull, mucking about in mud, swatting tons of bugs (I was NOT impressed at that part), bushwacking, seeing abandoned buildings, visiting the Taj Mahal of outhouses (more about that later) and watching Friday kick butt like she always does on hikes.

So, Jeff, the dogs and I went fishing. Jeff got three strikes. There was nothing there on the first two, but for the third, you could see the fish jumping as he reeled in. You could also see the eagle, circling. Jeff ended up losing the fish because he didn’t want to hook the eagle too. I managed to get a few shots (more to follow), but was choked that I didn’t have my longer lens with me.

The weather was amazing – sunny, hot, beautiful. Our last night, however, brought us lighting – so much lighting – and thunder… and eventually rain. The storm was crazy! There were times when we could tell that it was just overhead. Poor Chopper didn’t care for the storm at all. He panted like crazy and kept twining closer to Jeff or I every time it thundered. Friday happily slept through it. Packing up the morning was just a job to finish, so we could head out on the road away (hopefully) from the weather. This picture was essentially the result of me just wanting to get on the road, and then remembering that I needed to take a picture.

After a walk in the heat, Chopper is super tired. He’s propped himself up in front of the fan here.

In and Out socks – a Cookie A pattern. I actually finished these a while ago, but hadn’t gotten around to take pictures of them. Actually, I have quite a queue of knitted items that I need to take pictures of!
